2023/2024 – Victorian Workers Compensation Scheme – Modernisation
The Victorian Andrews’ Government has announced potential new eligibility guidelines regarding mental health injuries and longer term claims. Changes are planned to come into effect in 2024.
Since 2010, WorkCover’s claim liability has tripled, mainly due to the increased cost of weekly income support and many workers staying on the scheme long term. This increase is driven largely by mental injury claims, now representing 16% of new claims.
Mental Health
When changes to the WorkCover, workers with stress and burnout claims will no longer be able to access weekly benefits from WorkCover. Instead, they will access provisional payments for 13 weeks to cover medical treatment alongside enhanced psychosocial supports to help them return to the workplace.
Long Term Claims
WorkSafe will update the test for people who have been receiving weekly benefits for longer than two and a half years.
