Workcover Queensland is changing the way they process provider-lodged work capacity certificates, in line with their obligations under the Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2023.
From 1 July 2025, Workcover Queensland will no longer automatically register a claim when a doctor sends a work capacity certificate, unless they also receive a request from the worker to make a claim.
Instead, workers will need to make a claim themselves using a work capacity certificate. Workcover Queensland have created a poster that workers can follow to make a claim online.
They can also call Workcover Queensland on 1300 362 128 or fill out a physical form.
Alternatively, with the worker’s consent, an employer can still start the claim process on their behalf by submitting a completed claim form along with a copy of the work capacity certificate.
Please note: If a worker has suffered a catastrophic or serious injury (such as a spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury or is in a coma) and is unable to make a claim themselves, WorkCover Queensland will continue to initiate a claim on their behalf when we receive a work capacity certificate from a doctor.
